Rick Johnson
Rick the Voice Actor
Rick was born and raised in Queens, New York and moved to Chandler, Arizona with his wife Shari in 2013. Rick’s passion for acting, theatre and film didn’t really start until he was 15, when his parents sent him for acting classes. They figured if he was going to entertain family and friends with character voices, he might as well refine his craft. He received his B.A. in Theatre from CUNY Queens College where he studied under Tony nominated actor Charles Repole among others. He performed in 16 shows, The Crucible, Our Town, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Zoo Story, Carousel and Bus Stop among others (Carousel and Bus Stop having been directed by Repole).
During his college years, Rick had the privilege of working for the Sports Magic Team, a sports entertainment group that allowed him the opportunity to entertain crowds for two seasons at New York Mets games and one season for the New York Islanders. Affectionately known as “the guys who shoot the t-shirts into the crowd”, it was the beginning of an 8 year run into sports entertainment. He also served as the one and only mascot Elvis “The Lion” for the Queens Kings, a Class A minor league baseball team that lasted one season. The Kings moved to Brooklyn to become the Brooklyn Cyclones, a very popular Class A minor league baseball team in the New York Mets organization. Rick was the first ever mascot for the Cyclones- Sandy “The Seagull”, and continued to portray Sandy for four seasons. He has a featured bio in the book “When Baseball Returned to Brooklyn: The Inaugural Season of the New York-Penn League Cyclones” by Ed Shakespeare.
Rick made his professional theatre debut when he played the role of Ronnie Shaughnessy in The Wasted Theater Potentials production of “The House of Blue Leaves”. He earned his way into the Actor’s Equity Association (where he is still a member today) going on a U.S. domestic theater tour with TheatreWorks USA performing in “Ramona Quimby” as both Mr. Quimby and Ramona’s precocious friend Howie.
Rick is credited on iMDB for his role as “Punk Clerk” in the short film “Window Shopping II: Attack of the New Releases” and as a Producer for the award winning short film “Metal Gear”. Additionally, he has starred in, produced, directed and edited multiple short films. His television credits include spots on the game show “Nevermind the Buzzcocks” (VH1) and an untitled reality documentary on people with odd jobs where he was featured during a Brooklyn Cyclones game as Sandy “The Seagull” (I guess being a mascot is odd?).
Rick is a founding member of Group Text Productions and was tabbed as a Producer for the film “Fader” written by friend and co-founder Devin Roche, to be produced in conjunction with former Major League Baseball All-Star Kenny Lofton and his business partner Brenton Early (FilmPool), before the COVID pandemic put the production on hold.
Rick has now transitioned into voice acting! He has narrated and produced four audiobooks that can be found on Audible as well as the Apple iBooks store. He is represented by Crown North Talent Agency as a voice actor/audiobooks narrator.
